Friends,
Allison and I wanted to thank you for your continued prayers and
support. We also want to thank everyone for the cards, flowers, calls
and emails that you have sent to us. We wanted to give you an update on
everything that has taken place this past week. There is so much that
has happened that I could literally write for hours but I am going to
try to give you the quick version to solicit your prayers yet again. As
soon as the twins were born they were rushed into the NICU at Women's.
There is so much that goes into the process of being at the NICU that it
is almost impossible to describe. It is an experience that no parent
should ever have to endure. Everything seemed to be going fine with
both kids when Kate's blood levels dropped. The next 7 hours took me
and Kate by ambulance to Texas Children's hospital where the doctors
ultimately told me that there was nothing they could do for her and that
she did not have long to live. I called Allison at Women's at 6:30 in
the morning to tell her how sick Kate was and that I was coming to get
her so that we could be there to hold her for the first and last time.
We will never fully recover from holding our little girl as she went to
be with Jesus.
As bad as that was, there was no time to think because I was immediately
back to the NICU where I was told Cole had to have heart surgery to
repair a valve in his heart which is the same valve procedure that
contributed to Kate's death. They were able to successfully repair
Cole's valve and he seemed to be recovering nicely. All of his progress
has been amazing and we were feeling so confident until yesterday
morning. We learned that Cole has a significant brain bleed on both
sides of his brain. This can be catastrophic for children, as it was
for Kate, or can be as small as a bruise. Cole's situation is not
without hope but we desperately need God to intervene on his behalf.
Thank you for your prayers and love but please continue to pray for Cole
as we have not given up hope for his health through Jesus Christ who "is
able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to
his power that is at work within us.... Ephesians 3:20
